Where To Store Your Tarot Cards?

    where to store tarot cards

Tarot readers know firsthand how important it is to properly care for your tarot cards to get the most of them.

I admit I am a control freak when it comes to taking care of my beloved tarot cards haha

They know that the cards are not just pieces of paper that are akin to playing cards.

Rather, they hold incredible power and energy and serve as a potent spiritual tool.

This is why countless people throughout the world have instilled them into their lives.

Through their practice, they have learned just how sacred tarot cards are.

Naturally, you would want to store your tarot cards properly.

After all, they are easily affected by the energy of the things and people around them and so, they need to be protected.

Many people have learned the hard way that storing them in the wrong place can cause them to lose their energy or even become damaged.

Don’t let this happen to you!

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the top places and ways you should store your tarot cards.

    1) Tarot Bags

These days, you can easily get your hands on specialized tarot bags that are made to store your tarot cards in a safe manner.

These bags come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, colors, and materials (such as silk, cotton, velvet, etc.)

These bags are perfect for protecting the cards from dust, dirt, moisture, and physical damage.

Some tarot bags are also designed in a way that you can simply pick up the bag and carry it with you wherever you go.

You can also tuck them in nicely in your briefcase, suitcase, or any other backpack. If you happen to be someone who likes to travel or do readings at various places, this will be the right option for you.

    2) Wooden Boxes

This is perhaps the go-to choice for many people out there.

Wooden boxes are sturdy and durable and they provide the perfect protection for your tarot cards (especially when it comes to physical damage).

Also, what’s great is that these days, there are all sorts of wooden boxes that are specially designed for tarot cards.

They come in a range of sizes, colors, and types of wood.

Some of these are even large enough to safely (and elegantly) store multiple decks of cards.

Some readers even like to keep crystals and salts inside the boxes to keep their cards energized! ( I raise my hands haha)

As for picking the design, many tarot readers like to choose a design that conveys their personality.

Some even like to get a custom design made specifically for them. This certainly adds more flare to your readings.

    3) Altar Cloths

If you happen to have a thing for rituals, you can also use altar cloths to store your tarot cards.

Generally, these clothes are used to create sacred spaces for spiritual or even religious practices (such as prayers).

However, they can also be used to store your tarot cards.

These clothes come in different sizes and materials and can add a touch of elegance and mystique to your tarot readings.

One advantage of using altar cloths is that they can help you create a dedicated space for your tarot practice.

This can be especially useful if you like to do readings at home. Also, altar cloths can be easily folded and stored away when you are not using them.

    4) Bookshelf

A bookshelf is another great place to store your tarot cards.

Plus, if you don’t want other people to look at your tarot cards (for any reason whatsoever), a bookshelf is a great place to tuck them away (if you place them behind the books….don’t be shy haha).

And if you want your cards to be visible, you can place them on the bookshelf in such a way that they add a decorative element to your space.

In fact, you can display them alongside your other spiritual books, crystals, or other spiritual items.

Also, a bookshelf allows you to keep your tarot cards organized and easily accessible.

It can even serve as a dedicated space for your tarot practice, which can help you to focus and feel more connected to your cards.

    5) Original Card Boxes

Many tarot decks come with their own boxes.

And generally, these boxes are quite sturdy and are perfect for protecting your tarot cards.

However, depending on the deck you get for yourself, these boxes may or may not be aesthetically pleasing. If you happen to get a box that you like, that’s all fine and dandy. If not, you can choose one of the other options on this list.

If you do choose to use a card box to store your tarot cards, you may consider personalizing it by adding your own decorations.

You can also keep your card box out on display, or store it away in a safe place when not in use.

    6) Leave It On Your Table/Desk

At first sight, this might sound like a bizarre idea because it is not really a method to “store” your tarot cards.

However, if you happen to be someone who does frequent readings, this might be the most practical thing to do.

When you have your cards on the table, they are always within reach when you need them.

The drawback of leaving the cards on a table is the build up of dust if you don’t use it for a long time… or the risk of spilling water or any liquid on your cards…. ( Does it remind you of something??? lol)

    7) Ribbons

This is another novel idea that a lot of tarot readers like to use.

Of course, ribbons don’t protect your cards from physical damage, dust, dirt, or other outside forces.

However, they will keep your cards neat and tidy. Plus, they are cheap, so there is that!

I think the biggest advantage of using ribbons is that they add a hint of luxury and elegance to your deck of cards.

You can also use different ribbons for different types of readings.

For example, if you want to do a love reading for someone, you can use a silk or satin ribbon. Then, when you open this ribbon in front of the person, it will add an extra bit of sensuality to the experience.

    8) In A Sacred Place

Many people like to store their tarot cards in a sacred place.

To them, their practice is no less than a prayer or a form of worship. I personnaly like to have a dedicated space.

If you are a bit like me, then you can place your tarot cards inside an altar cloth or bag for example and keep them in an altar, manifestation room, chest, or temple in your home.

There are many advantages to doing so.

First, such sacred places are somehow free of negative or toxic energies.

This keeps the card protected on a spiritual level.

It also helps you establish a deeper bond with your deck of cards. Somehow, you feel a stronger connection with them.

Second, you can use this sacred space as your dedicated place to do readings. It will certainly add a spiritual element to your reading and make the experience more impactful.

    9) Under Your Pillow

A lot of readers also like to keep their tarot cards under their pillows.

I like to do so for new tarot cards 🙂

As you can probably tell, this brings about a personal touch and helps you develop a deeper connection with your tarot cards.

Some readers also believe that doing so enhances your intuition. Also, on a more practical side, keeping your cards under your pillow can be a convenient way to store them if you do frequent readings and don’t have a designated space to store them 🙂

    10) In Your Bag

    This one is a no-brainer.

Many people also like to store their tarot cards in their bags so that they can do a reading whenever and wherever they want.

If you choose this method, just make sure to keep your cards organized and easy to access in the bag. You can tie them with a ribbon to make things a little easier on you or better use a tarot bag to protect the cards from the other stuff you may have in your bag, that could damage your cards. 🙂
