When people talk about tarot readings, they still mostly refer to in-person readings.
After all, that’s how tarot readings have been conducted for centuries and that is still what most people prefer. However, we live in a world where technology has enabled us to reach out to people living across the world.
As such, you might have seen the rise of remote tarot readings.
These readings take place on websites, phone calls, video calls, or even just text. While more and more people are turning to these methods of tarot reading, some people are still skeptical. They wonder if such readings even work.
So, can you do a tarot reading for someone not present?
The answer is a definite yes. Tarot readings are not limited by time and space. As a reader, you can do readings for a person living thousands of kilometers away from you. Heck, you could do a reading for them even if they somehow lived on another planet! on even without talking to the querent….
In this article, I will talk about some aspects of remote readings, how they work, and what you can do to prepare yourself for such a reading.
In a remote reading, a querent reaches out to a reader and asks them about their specific problem or situation.
The reader then uses their tarot cards to do the reading for them. They start out by focusing on the energy of the querent and the problem at hand. In the meantime, they might ask for help from their angels or other higher beings in the spiritual plane.
I believe this whole process revolves around one element: energy.
The cards are able to read the energy of the querent and the reader. The reader is able to use their psychic abilities (if any) and gather messages from the cards as well as the spiritual realm. All of this is able to happen because of energy.
And that is why “remote” readings work.
As you may know, energy is not bound by time or space. It works according to your intention: your energy follows your intention.
This is why a remote reading is exactly like an in-person reading (except for the fact that the two people are not in the same room).
If you are the querent, you should first try to prepare yourself for a remote reading. This is because of a couple of important reasons. First, some level of preparation can help you get more accurate readings and relevant insights. This is true for in-person reading also.
Second, if you’re new to remote readings, you might be a little anxious or doubtful, which can disturb your energy, and hence, the reading. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how you can prepare for a remote reading.
Meditation is one of the best ways to clear your mind and achieve a state of relaxation.
It allows you to let go of your worries and anchor your attention to the present moment. This can be really important before a tarot reading since it stabilizes your energy and does away with any negative influences. This leads to more accurate readings.
So, select a comfortable place and sit down in a cross-legged posture. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Try to let everything go. With each exhalation, feel the relaxation spread throughout your body and mind. With each inhalation, feel the positivity take over you. Allow yourself to be content and in the moment.
This is a really important step.
After all, this is how the reader will pick up on your intentions and the energy of the question. A lot of people go to their tarot readers and want to ask them a barrage of different questions. This tangles their energy up and the reader might have a hard time helping these people.
It’s better to focus on one question or area of life at one time. So, focus on the most important question you have and let it be the only thing you think about before the reading. Be absolutely clear about what you want to ask and why.
This is not strictly necessary but it can definitely help in the reading.
Before you start talking to your reader, you can clear the energy of the space you live in. This ensures that there are no negative influences over your energy and the reader only picks up on things that they are supposed to.
To clear the energy of any given space, you can burn some Sage and waft it around in your room. You can also burn some incense sticks and let the smoke fill the room.
If you’re a reader, you are probably already aware of why you should prepare for a remote reading (or an in-person reading).
Since you may deal with multiple people on the same day, it is ideal to take some time and clear your mind so that you can focus on the next person.
Also, depending on who you are as a person, you might find in-person readings easier since you might be able to pick up on the energies more quickly and accurately. So, again, by preparing yourself, you’re in a much better position to provide an accurate reading to the querent.
Let’s take a look at how you can do that.
As a reader, you need to be in tune with your energies. And you can do this in several ways. You can meditate, practice mindfulness, do some quick yoga, go for a walk, listen to music, and so on. Obviously, this differs from one person to another. So, you need to figure out what works for you the best.
Again, if you’re a tarot reader, you already know why this is important. Tarot decks can hold onto the energies from previous readings and influence future readings. This can cause inaccuracies and lead to unintended consequences.
So, it’s best to cleanse your tarot cards before every reading. You can do this in several ways. You can burn some sage and waft each card over the smoke. You could put the cards in a sealed bag and run the bag underwater for some time. You could also use powerful crystals to clear any residual energies from the tarot cards.
As a tarot reader, you might have learned that spiritual beings can take your reading to a whole other level. If you learn to listen to their subtle messages, you can decipher things that would otherwise be impossible. This is because the angels or ascended masters have access to all the information about the physical world.
So, before any reading, you can pray or ask aloud for help from your guardian spirits. Tell them exactly what you need. You can say something like, “Oh guardian angels, please help me help this person. Guide me to the knowledge that will solve their challenges. Show me what I need to see in order to do this reading accurately.”
In an in-person reading, the reader and the querent are in constant communication. It starts with the querent telling the reader about the situation at hand and what exactly they need help for. They might also ask a specific question to the reader. Then, during the reading, after the reader has drawn out the cards, they might ask the querent clarifying questions about the situation.
This happens because some readings can be tricky and the reader might get cards that do not provide the necessary clarity. Or it could be that they see something that requires more context. So, it is common for a reader to ask more questions.
The same should be replicated in a remote reading.
If your reading is taking place over a phone call, video call, or even text, this shouldn’t be a problem. These media allow both parties to ask or say things to each other. So, just remain open to any communication from the other side and be honest with your answers. The more relevant information you are able to provide the better it is.
What If You Can’t Communicate? Or don’t want to ?
However, if for some reason, you are not able to communicate with each other during the reading, there are things you can do to ensure a smooth experience.
As a querent, you are more responsible for providing all the necessary details of your situation. So, you should probably check the following list before proceeding with the reading:
- Ask a clear and specific question.
- Provide context about your situation and as many details as possible.
- You can send in additional yes/no questions if you want.
- If you are weighing options, tell the reader what those options are.
- If you don’t know your options, make this clear to the reader.
- Provide any other detail that you think might help the reading.
If you’re the reader, and the querent has provided all the details that they possibly could, and you still can’t get a clear reading, do the following:
- Take a pause and ask higher beings for help. Even if you did this earlier, do it again and be more assertive this time.
- Draw additional cards from the deck. Don’t be hesitant to break the spread if you have to.
- Try to rephrase your queries.
- Ask open-ended questions to the cards instead of yes/no questions.
Then, when the reading is complete, it is a good idea to follow up with each other to talk about the insights that have surfaced.
At times, you might be tempted to ask a taro reader questions about your family, friends, colleagues, or neighbors.
You might either be concerned for them or you might want to find out whether they are hiding something from you. In such cases, you might wonder: can a tarot reader help you?
Well, to be honest, most tarot readers won’t do third-party readings. They are bound by ethics and they likely won’t violate that. Even if you have positive reasons for the reading, a tarot reader might deny your request.
You see, reading should always take place between 2 people, and there should be explicit permission for the same.
After all, a tarot reading is a deeply personal thing and it shouldn’t take place for a person without their knowledge. I mean, how would you feel if someone did a tarot reading for you and got to know some intimate details about you?
In fact, even if you are asking about your spouse, you have to word your questions carefully. For instance, if you want to know whether your spouse is cheating on you, you can’t simply ask, “Is my wife/husband cheating on me?” Instead, you should ask questions such as, “What does the future of my relationship look like?” “What should I know about my relationship?” etc.
If you happen to be a new tarot reader, you might be anxious to deal with people firsthand. Even if you are an extrovert, you might find it difficult to be blunt or talk about intimate information (even though you have permission). Also, if your family doesn’t approve of you being a reader (for whatever reason), it might be difficult to invite clients over.
As such, remote readings are perfect for you as a new reader. You can more easily focus on the reading or the questions….. And since everything happens online, your disapproving family doesn’t need to know!
Also, there are many forums online that you can join to further enhance your skills. You can meet people who are looking for a quick reading, and you can take those readings to slowly build experience. Then, when you’re ready, you can start reading for people in the real world!
